Founded in 1948 in Frankfurt am Main the German Green Cross (Deutsches GrĂĽnes Kreuz e.V., DGK) is the oldest non-governmental organisation to encourage health prevention in Germany. Its main task is to motivate the general public to take responsibility for their own health and to make use of the provided prevention services.By means of national and regional actions the DGK addresses the population or specific target groups directly on current health topics and calls to active participation in preventive measures.
The German Green Cross cooperates closely with numerous national and international organisations, state run institutions and scientific groups such as: World Health Organisation (WHO), headquarters in Geneva and regional office for Europe in Copenhagen; European Union; Federal Ministry of Health and Social Security and subordinate authorities; federal states ministries and public medical services; scientific professional organisations; professional institutions; civil and patient organisations.
The thematic focusing is mainly carried out by the scientific advisers of the different sections. The sections are associations of scientists from the respective scientific area of expertise and disciplines. The DGK’s currently 20 sections - from A such as “allergy prevention” to V as “vaccination” - are advised and supported thematically and technically by their respective scientific advisers.
Tasks and goals of the DGK’s section dental and oral health
Encouragement to lifelong oral prophylaxis, bundling and communication of the latest knowledge in oral and dental health - these are the section’s principal purposes.
Over the past 20 years, dentistry has experienced a fundamental preventive direction. Specific prophylactic treatments, which help to support and maintain lifelong dental health, are offered for each age. Education about perfect dental hygiene and motivation to teeth-friendly eating habits are major factors in accomplishing that goal.
The sections’s cooperation partners are the Federal Chamber for Dentists (Bundeszahnärztekammer, BZÄK) and the German Society of Dentistry and Oral Medicine (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Zahn-, Mund- und Kieferheilkunde, DGZMK).
Up-to-dateness and reliability of our communication around dental and oral health is guaranteed by the scientific advisory council.
